Using VIN Scrubbing in CollisionLink Shop Plus

KB Article #6926

CollisionLink Shop Plus uses VIN scrubbing to identify parts and provide alerts about part fitment for the VIN. As a result, parts may display various icons along with the part number.

Notes:

  • Scrubbing information in CollisionLink Plus is dependent on information provided by the OEMs. We recommend using parts experience in conjunction with the data we provide to determine what parts to order for the repair.
  • VIN scrubbing is only available for Plus accounts and select OEMs. (Learn more about what OEMs provide this feature.)

The part number is valid for the year, make, model series, and/or option codes of the vehicle.

The OE part number will be highlighted in green and labeled Valid Part.

The part number is valid for the year, make, and model; however, it cannot validate the model series and/or option codes of the vehicle.

The estimate part number will be listed, along with the OE part number(s) found as a possible match. The OE part number will be highlighted in amber and labeled Part may not fit this model.

Click the drop-down to the right of the OE part number to view other part numbers that may be a possible fit. To swap parts within the unsent order, click the desired part from the drop-down.

The part number will be highlighted in red and labeled Invalid Part

Click the drop-down to the right of the OE part number to view other part numbers that may be a possible fit. To swap parts within the unsent order, click the desired part from the drop-down.

Neither the part nor the part number have been found.

The estimate part number will be listed, along with the OE part number(s) found as a possible match. The part number will be highlighted in blue and labeled Part not found.

Supersession Parts

CollisionLink Plus takes advantage of supersession data to ensure parts scrubbing results are more accurate. Within CollisionLink, supersession is defined as a part number that has been replaced by a newer part number by the manufacturer.

Example:

  • For a 2012 vehicle, the part number for the hood in 2012 was E51110. CollisionLink Plus will show this as a valid part.

  • In 2018, part number E51110 was retired and superseded with part number E5111. Prior to this update, CollisionLink would identify this as an invalid part.

Now, CollisionLink Plus will automatically look at a part number's supersession chain during the part validation/scrubbing process to determine if the part is a valid replacement for the original part number and is the right part for that VIN. In the example above, part E51111 is a valid replacement (superseded) part to the original part number and the valid icon will display.
